Extra Credit!

The Good:

A lot of people cannot afford to go to a nice college or even have time. People can now get a degree right online. They can take all of their classes online at home. I think this site and other sites that offer people to get degrees online are really good and helpful. Some adults do not have time to go to classes if they have children but now they can easily take classes right online. I believe that these sites are helping people continue their education.

The Bad:

The article “Life in the age of Internet addiction” by Ned Hepbum is about how so many people are addicted to the internet. He talks about a disorder, Digital Attention Disorder, “addiction to social networks and computers in general.” People are using computers and iPhones to use the internet everyday. People use the internet for work, emails, facebook, ebay, youtube  and etc. In the article it states, “The vast majority of the American population is mildly addicted technology, and our clinic treats only very serious cases.”  To go get help is very expensive almost about 20,000 for 45 day Internet rehab. It is extremely bad that people are using internet too much. People should limit themselves each day on how much they will use the interent.

The Ugly:

This article is about someone dying because of cyberbullying. It is about how a student at Rutgers University killed himself because his roommate used a spy webcam on him having sex with another man and posted it online. His parents wanted to sue the school but now two years later they are working together through the Tyler Clementi Center at Rutgers. The center holds conferences and for students to talk about the transition from home to college. Too many young people are dying due to cyberbullying. People need to be careful what they post on the internet because you never know if someone could be offended by it.

Cell Phones and Privacy

Prepaid cellphones could be used in many different ways. I know in my family my brother got a prepaid phone for his first phone just so he could make phone calls and become mature enough to get a real cellphone. They are good for young teens to have them for emergencies. Prepaid phones are good for people that cannot afford phone bills. Now a day to just buy a cellphone through companies is hundreds of dollars and that is not even to pay for the monthly bill.  The law should be able to control prepaid phones but not ban them because a majority of the people uses them for good reasons. We should keep the prepaid phones but they should be able to be registered for safety issues.

Personally I do not believe that implanting computer chips is a good idea to put into children or teenagers because there could be many health risks to it. I understand that parents want to have their children safe but they could keep them safe in a different way. Even though little children do not know any better I feel as though putting computer chips into there body is taking away their own rights. If at a young age they are taken away there rights they wont know better when they are older.  If there was a bill in Congress to require ID chips in children under the age of 5 I would not support it because parents should not have to have chips in their children to know where they are. We have gone many years without computer chips why have them now? I would still not agree to have a senior who has Alzheimer’s to have a computer chip put into there body because it could possibly have worse side effects. I do feel as though in this circumstance if the family agrees to it have a GPS shoe but nothing implanted into his or her body. I feel as though everyone should have the right to his or her own privacy.
